There are many reasons why you should create a deeper relationship with your grandkids.
You, for one, will benefit greatly.
Building strong family relationships is linked to a good, healthy life.
In what ways can your grandchildren benefit?
Children today are under a great deal more pressures and constraints than we were.
They have all the pressures of fitting in, and getting along with their peers, and they can also be adversely affected by bullies online.
When you spend time with your grandchildren you are offering them some very important values.
An ear to listen
Children of all ages need someone who will listen to them.
Listening is easy. You simply close your mouth and concentrate on what is being said.
Many times, the person talking doesn’t need advice or for the listener to ‘fix’ whatever is wrong.
Instead, they need to vocalize what is bothering them, and get it off their chest.
Once the words leave them, then they are sometimes able to see a resolution themselves.
If you find that your grandchild is opening up to you, wait until he or she has finished and ask if there is anything they want you to do. Don’t offer to fix it or make it right unless you are asked to.
Instead, read this quote and use it to help you be the best grandparent you can be.
To be kind is more important than to be right; many times what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks, but a special heart that listens. (Author unknown)
