Today’s children’s author is one of my favorites, the very talented Erica Gore.
Erica is a talented writer who seems to know how to get right into the head of a child. She is dedicated to the well-being of children across the globe. As an advocate against bullying, a topic we feel passionately about here, we just had to have Erica as our guest.
A stand against bullying
I read recently about a group of boys in a high school who decided to do something about bullying. One of them had been a victim of bullying himself when he was younger. Now, as a member of the football team, he had more “cred” with the rest of the student body. Seeing a younger boy been picked on, this guy decided to befriend him, eat lunch with him, take him to training etc. This gave some “cred” to the younger child as well. This one small act has sparked a movement across the USA and inspired many students to take a stand against bullying.
In ‘Gummshoes – Mission #1: The Nobbled Numbskull’ school will never be the same for Alex after he is befriended by Frankie Gumm and Oliver Mollison. As a member of the Gummshoe Gang, his habit of taking notes is particularly useful when the boys set out to discover who is sabotaging the school soccer team. The new friendship also teaches him valuable skills in dealing with the school bullies.
Meet Erica Gore
E. J. (Erica) Gore Erica grew up in Brisbane, Australia, in the 1950/60s. For an inwardly adventurous, but outwardly shy child, reading was a major part of life. Stories such as Enid Blyton’s ‘Famous Five’ adventures fired her imagination and created new worlds for her to explore. Making up stories of her own followed as a natural progression, with Erica holding storytelling sessions for her stuffed toys each evening before bed. Having overcome her shyness by taking drama classes at her mother’s insistence, Erica became a primary school teacher.
