Many children have to go to hospital for a variety of reasons. As a child’s grandparent you might feel powerless, and not know what to do.
However, there are a lot of things you can do to show your love to your sick grandchild, and also his or her family.
1. Bring Healthy Snacks
As much as chocolate makes us feel better, fruit, nuts and healthy treats will help a young body grow and develop.
Don’t take too much, just enough for a few people to share.
You could also take napkins and wet wipes so hands can remain clean and mess-free.
2. Visit during the Day
Working parents and school siblings may not be able to be with your grandchild during the day.
Pop in and spend quality time during those quiet times.
You may find it gives you the opportunity to share some advice and funny stories with your grandchild.
3. Think About the Whole Family
Whatever you do take into consideration the whole family.
Is there something you can do to free up the child’s parents so they can spend more time at hospital?
Could you clean the house, walk the dog, feed the cat, for example?
Helping to remove small stresses can make a big difference for many families, and make your grandchild’s recovery quicker.
