We have scoured the internet to find the funniest, silliest pranks you can play on your grandchildren this April Fool’s Day. Best of all they are safe, and not too mean.
If you don’t feel like playing a trick on your grandchildren, why not enlist their help to play one of these tricks on another person in your family. Does your partner need a lift in their day? What about your neighbor or the kids’ mom or dad?
Read this post, get your tricks ready, and grab your camera. It’s going to be a fun day, one worth sharing and remembering.
- We are watching you!
Grab some plastic eyes and stick them on everything in the fridge or the cupboard.
- Up, Up and Away!
Place a helium balloon inside the toilet, and close the lid. Wait and see how much of a surprise the next person to use the loo gets!
- Undrinkable Juice
Grab a packet of jelly or gelatin and prepare. Pop a straw in the middle and put into the fridge to set. When it is dinner time, offer the drink to your grandchild and watch them try to sip it up.
- Need Milk?
Put a few drops of food coloring in the milk container. Hand it out at breakfast and wait for the surprise yell!
- Can’t get soapy!
Paint a bar of soap with clear nail polish and let it dry. The nail varnish stops it from developing suds.
- A Green Bath!
Wipe the inside of the facet with green food dye. Use the gel form for better results. When the tap is turned on the water will change color. You can use any color you like for a fun effect.
- My drink bottle is leaking!
Get a plastic water bottle and poke tiny holes in it using a sewing needle. When someone picks it up, the pressure of their hand will cause a light spray of water to go everywhere!
- Upside Down House
When everyone is out of the house or they have gone to bed, turn as many things as you can upside down.
These might be picture frames, clocks, small furniture, and all the food in the cupboard or refrigerator. When everyone returns they will have no idea what is going one!
- Snack Switch-ero!
Carefully open the bottom of the bag of all the snack foods in your cupboard. Pour out the contents into a bowl. Now, replace them with something different. Seal the bottom of the pack with clear tape. You can do this with almost all dry foods. Imagine thinking you were about to eat potato chips and you got rice instead! Wait until they open the bag and get confused.
- Critter Lunch
Hide plastic bugs, spiders and beetles under the clear wrap of food you might have in the fridge or cupboard.
- A not-so-nice snack surprise
Add the same rubber bugs and spiders to snack foods. See Snack Swith-ero above. Instead of changing the food add some creepy crawlers.
- Confetti fun!
When grandma or grandpa aren’t looking pour a lot of confetti or glitter in between the pages of the books they are reading. Imagine their delight when they open it and confetti goes everywhere! Not!
- DIY Daylight Saving Time
When everyone is asleep turn all the clocks in the house an hour or two early. Best to do this on a weekend just so no one gets cross!
- A chilly breakfast surprise
Prepare the night before by putting cereal and milk in a bowl and let it freeze overnight. Leave the spoon in for an added effect.
- Toilet Paper Message
Unroll the toilet paper and leave a funny message for the unsuspecting user. My personal favorite: “Surprise!” Roll the toilet paper back up and wait to see who ends up getting the message.
- Pillow Prank
Remove the pillows from the pillowcases and fill them with several partially inflated balloons. When they put their head down to sleep, they’ll soon realize that something is not right!
- Confuse your kid on the ride to school.
Put a sign on the back of your car asking other drivers to honk and wave at a passenger as they go past your car.
- Moldy lunch!
Get some dark green food dye and carefully dab it on the outside of a sandwich. It will look as if the sandwich has gone moldy!
- Put a “for sale” sign in your front yard.
While your family are out, put a big ‘for sale’ sign in the front yard. Try to convince them that you are moving to a faraway destination like Mongolia or Easter Island, and that they are all coming.
- You’ve got Mail!
Hide a rubber spider or snake in the mailbox and wait for the screams!
- Try this “dollar in a book” trick.
Cut off the corner of a fake bank note and tape it to a slightly larger piece of paper. Sit the paper in between the pages of a book. Wait to see how notices and tries to claim the money for themselves.
- A solid glass of milk!
You use gelatin to make this unusual glass of milk. Simple mix and leave to set. Add a straw for an extra effect and offer it to your grandchildren. Watch as they try to drink this solid lump!
- Donut Trees
Grab a breakfast cereal that is shaped like mini-donuts. Place them in an old seed packet, and convince your family that you are going to grow donuts this year. See how many of them want to help you plant and water these seeds. Can you think of other things you could plant? What about Lego blocks or jelly babies?
- Sleeping soundly!
When your kids are sleeping, switch them into each other’s bed. They’ll need to be sound sleepers, but imagine the fun when they wake up in a strange bed. You could also set up a tent in the yard and put them in their too!
